The Role Of God

Published from Blogger Prime Android AppHey you!

I don't think I have quite asked how you're faring before now and so, here is me reaching out... How are you doing? I hope you're surviving, sometimes, it's all that's needed. I say this because I know there are helpless and hopeless individuals at places where there are no opportunities to thrive, and so I hope you're surviving long enough to reach a place that'd help you thrive.

The other day, I had an argument with an acquaintance, we'd use 'Sly' to represent him. He'd sighted this young lady's outfit at the mall and showed no pleasure towards it.. She'd worn a shawl-like blouse over a bum short. So he goes "why would someone dress like this to an open place, it's indecent and immoral", this would be the nicest of all the things he said as regards that lady's dressing.

I went on to ask "what would Jesus do or say?". I asked this because he'd come with the righteous condemnation of an absolute Christian fanatic. So he tries to dodge answering, doing all he could to use logical statements that do not in anyway relate to the answer to my question. I reminded him about the case of Mary Magdalene: the woman whom everyone had tagged a prostitute and yet, Christ let her so close as to clean his legs with her hair and oil.

You won't believe what Sly's next statement was: he asked if I was truly christian. Lol.. I was however happy to entertain this question with quite a lot to tell him:

We humans in more ways than one enjoy playing God, more than God himself even. We are sometimes the absolute hypocrites defined in the Bible and more. We judge people by their outward appearance and profile them where we deem fit. It brings to mind the story Jesus told in the temple about people choosing a pot that's clean on the outside and dirty on the inside.

I was quick to remind him of how many respected men of God dupe people out of their hard earned money, claiming all sorts of prophecies for them and even about the ones who abuse and rape women and instead of calling them out, we try to pamper their egos and hide under the "touch not my anointed" phrase, like the people they're abusing aren't God's anointed too.

We judge people simply because they sin differently from us. It's hilarious. Most people burn so much energy in eviscerating someone's reputation, because their way of life or opinions do not augur well or align with their beliefs. It's appaling. The funniest thing Sly said that day would be "how can you say you're serving God and you want to keep an open mind?". No, Sly isn't an illiterate, he's educated and has a good job, but he thinks keeping an open mind as a Christian is not allowed.

If Christ had been judgemental, his disciples would be selected from the hypocrites, task collectors and all the highly placed individuals who lived in his age and time. He went to Zacheus' house for a feast! I mean, why didn't he go to Bartimeus' house or the woman who gave her all during offertory?

A man who'd known Judas would betray him and that Peter would deny him, three good times. First two times would have been mistakes, but the third time? Surely a confirmation.. Yet what did Jesus do? He made him the rock on which the church stands. Most christians, especially African christians do not as little as give people a chance. I know people who have been denied jobs and opportunities because they didn't quite look the role and I've seen and heard of people who were fixed in positions they know nothing about, because they looked 'decent' enough: decent according to their Christian minds.

I could go on and on... I've seen so much of extreme Christians than I can bear really. So the next time you're in a hurry to point a finger, you might want to stop for a short minute to think about what Jesus would do...

Always with love and light.. ✨
