Music Monday! (Passenger- Traveling Alone)
There are a few artistes you'd have to excuse my sentiments when reviewing their songs. Passenger sits comfortably on that table. I'm helplessly awed with everything he drops, from his voice to his use of instruments and boy do I love string instruments! His songs are nothing short of inspiring and takes me to places I never thought existed. Only passenger has the power of taking me to the Elysian fields and he does so, effortlessly! So, am I grateful for coming across his sound? You'd bet!
I had just come across "Traveling Alone" from his 'Whispers II" album, I'm probably late to the party, as it's been out since 2015, but that's the thing about Passenger: you're never late with his songs. They speak to every age and time.
Passenger in 'Traveling Alone' tells of the different people he found around him (probably during a tour, as he was lodged in a hotel room), each expressing their heartbreaks and loneliness through their different stories, bearing their losses with brave faces at first;
The Australian man who'd given a smile as though anyone cared, then goes further to tell how he'd arrived there because it was his wife's idea. She was no longer around and had left him travelling alone.
The woman who was bitter still. Apparently, "the smell of her burning heart" could be sensed from a mile away. It was from the loss of a man whom she'd loved to the bones for ten whole years but he'd traded her in and left her traveling alone.
Passenger explains how their stories left him with a silence that that hit him in three strong ways: ringing like a bell, hitting like a train and coursing like blood, through his veins.
It really is a tale of heartbreaks and how they lead people to places they'd never have considered being alone in. In the end, people need closure, no matter how little or senseless it might be or sound... The need to feel the presence of lost loved ones before finally making peace within our hearts to eviscerate their thoughts and move on... Nothing quiche about this song, just loneliness, deep thoughts and heartbreaks.
In any event, I find it cathartic, simply because it is. Especially if you're a lover of meaningful songs after the toil on days like this... Nothing hard, just slow and soothing. I hope you take a listen. I know you'd find it interesting.
I also hope your week is filled with love... 💕
